Yet another Mueller investigator exposed as anti-Trump agent
Is the facade of integrity of presented by special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Trump-Russia collusion crumbling by the day? The latest reports suggest that his team is filled with anti-Trump attorneys, bringing into question the neutrality, partiality, and objectivity of the probe.
Judicial Watch, a government watchdog organization, released new emails on Tuesday that reveal that Andrew Weissmann, a prosecutor working for Mueller, celebrated former acting Attorney General Sally Yates for refusing to defend President Donald Trump’s executive order restricting immigration from seven countries. The group obtained the emails through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit.
Another Anti-Trump Lawyer Found in Mueller Probe
On Jan. 30, acting AG Sally Yates wrote a letter to Department of Justice (DOJ) lawyers ordering them not to present legal arguments in defense of the White House’s executive order on immigration and refugees. Yates, who was appointed by President Barack Obama as U.S. attorney in northern Georgia, argued that the president’s EO was unconstitutional.
Upset by her decision to undermine the administration, President Trump fired her within hours. This sparked outrage in Washington.
Later that day, Yates received accolades from several DOJ officials, including Weissman, who was working for the DOJ at the time.
He wrote to Yates:
I am so proud. And in awe. Thank you so much. All my deepest respects.
Why is this a big deal? Weissmann joined Mueller’s supposedly impartial investigation of the president that Weissmann so proudly opposed in January. Reports note that Weissmann is a top lieutenant and “pitbull” to Mueller in the investigation.
Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton called this “an astonishing and disturbing find.”
He said in a statement:
This is an astonishing and disturbing find. Andrew Weisman, a key prosecutor on Robert Mueller’s team, praised Obama DOJ holdover Sally Yates after she lawlessly thwarted President Trump.
How much more evidence do we need that the Mueller operation has been irredeemably compromised by anti-Trump partisans? Shut it down.
The email dump came hours before Fox News’s Laura Ingraham revealed that a third member of Mueller’s team, Jeannie Rhee, has ties to the Obama administration and the Clinton Foundation. Her records also display that she donated large sums to the Democratic Party.
Other DOJ Members Laud Sally Yates
Judicial Watch’s FOIA requests further highlight the anti-Trump stance within the Justice Department. DOJ emails show many applauding Yates for her actions.
Thomas Delahanty, then-U.S. Attorney for May, called Yates his “hero.” Liz Aloi, Chief of the Justice Department’s Special Financial Investigations Unit, wrote that Yates was “inspirational and heroic.”
Barbara McQuade, appointed by President Obama as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan, stated that “this is wonderful news.”
DOJ Civil Division Appellate Attorney Jeffrey Clair had a lot to say about the Trump administration. He wrote:
Thank you AG Yates. I’ve been in civil/appellate for 30 years and have never seen an administration with such contempt for democratic values and the rule of law. The President’s order is an unconstitutional embarrassment and I applaud you for taking a principled stand against defending it.
The revelations come on the heels of a scandal involving Peter Strzok, a veteran FBI investigator on Mueller’s team who was discovered to be exchanging anti-Trump text messages with a paramour. Strzok was taken off the Mueller investigation and demoted to a role in human resources this summer.
If recent documents suggest anything, this is only the beginning.
With these emails and documents being released on now what seems a daily basis, some are calling for Mueller to step down from the investigation, or to quit the probe.
If there are several members of the probe that have a strong anti-Trump or pro-Hillary bias, then how can the American people trust that it’s an impartial investigation rather than a political witch hunt? If Mueller can’t ensure a fair and just investigation, then it really is time to step down.
