Eric Holder attacks Donald Trump, says he has no ‘integrity’

When news broke that FBI agent Peter Strzok was removed from Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into Russian meddling after he it was revealed that he sent anti-Trump text messages, President Donald Trump issued a statement on Twitter that was critical of the investigative agency. He wrote in part that the FBI is in “tatters,” and is the “worst in history.”
But former Attorney General Eric Holder wasn’t having it. In a response to Trump’s tweet, Holder denied that the FBI is in “tatters” and criticized the integrity and honesty of those in the White House — a thinly veiled shot at Trump himself.
Trump issued a series of tweets on Sunday that called out the FBI for their “phony and dishonest” handling of the Clinton investigation, among other things.
The president wrote:
After years of Comey, with the phony and dishonest Clinton investigation (and more), running the FBI, its reputation is in Tatters – worst in History! But fear not, we will bring it back to greatness.
Trump ended his first message with a glimpse of hope that the FBI will soon be returned to “greatness,” but he wasn’t done yet:
Report: “ANTI-TRUMP FBI AGENT LED CLINTON EMAIL PROBE” Now it all starts to make sense!
Just a few hours later, Holder struck back with his now-infamous tweet:
Nope. Not letting this go. The FBI’s reputation is not in “tatters”. It’s composed of the same dedicated men and women who have always worked there and who do a great, apolitical job. You’ll find integrity and honesty at FBI headquarters and not at 1600 Penn Ave right now
Others Weigh In
It wasn’t just Holder who had something to say about Trump’s tweets. FBI Director James Comey also seemed to weigh in, tweeting a quote from a talk he gave to the Senate Intelligence Committee in June:
I want the American people to know this truth: The FBI is honest. The FBI is strong. And the FBI is, and always will be, independent.” Me (June 8, 2017)
The FBI Agents Association also offered their own opinion on the exchange.
FBIAA President Thomas O’Connor said in a statement on Sunday:
Every day, FBI Special Agents put their lives on the line to protect the American public from national security and criminal threats. Agents perform these duties with unwavering integrity and professionalism and a focus on complying with the law and the Constitution.
While many associated with the FBI have defended the agency, Holder and others’ claims aren’t holding their weight.
It was revealed on Thursday that the FBI covered up for Bill Clinton and former Attorney General Loretta Lynch’s secret meeting on the tarmac at a Phoenix airport in 2016, effectively standing behind Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.
That doesn’t sound “apolitical” to us.
Furthermore, Holder weighing in on matters of integrity are bewildering considering he was held in contempt of Congress for concealing crucial documents about the “Fast and Furious” scandal.
This is a matter of respect — and Holder just doesn’t have any.
