DANIEL VAUGHAN: Stop feeding the outrage trolls

There’s a classic skit from the British show Monty Python wherein a man and a woman are in an apartment talking heatedly. The man laments at one point that he didn’t expect to be grilled like it was the Spanish Inquisition. In burst three men into the apartment dressed in red Catholic cardinal robes, who shout: “No one expects the Spanish Inquisition!”

Similarly, no one expects the social justice warrior crowd anymore. They come bursting through the doors of everyday life to denounce whatever they feel needs condemning that day, ruining people’s lives before running off to their next victim.

Case in point, the social justice warriors, masquerading as journalists, recently tried to destroy the career of arguably the biggest stand-up comedian star on the planet right now, Kevin Hart.

According to the social justice warrior (SJW) inquisition, Kevin Hart’s greatest sin as a standup comedian was telling “homophobic jokes” in his stand-up routine and on Twitter. Hart has spent the better part of the last decade working his way up the ranks of stand-up comics, and some of the “offensive” jokes come from his earliest stand-up specials.

So why does this matter now? Why is Kevin Hart suddenly problematic?

Because he was selected to host the Oscars.

According to the SJW crowd, Kevin Hart is simply too problematic to host the Oscars. The utter absurdity of this claim was noted by none other than Saturday Night Live comedian Michael Che, who said: “Didn’t the Academy nominate Mel Gibson for an award just last year? Also, if Kevin Hart isn’t clean enough to host the Oscars then no black comic is.”

He went on to say “the only black comic I know that’s cleaner than Kevin Hart is booked for the next three to 10 years,” referring to Bill Cosby.

It’s mildly amusing to watch the Oscars SJW crowd go after Hart, particularly because various black actors and workers in Hollywood have noted for years how little respect the academy gives anyone of color. The viral #OscarsSoWhite campaign highlighted liberal Hollywood’s race problem last year.

And let’s not forget how Hollywood and the Oscar community spent the last several decades protecting and promoting rapists, sexual assaulters, and abusers in the form of Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey, and a long list of others.

But now this same industry, which the social justice warriors claim has a race problem, is targeting black comics like Kevin Hart. You could throw a rock into the past and hit any number comedians who made similarly “homophobic” jokes, including Jon Stewart, David Letterman, and Jimmy Kimmel. But Hart is the problem.

This same industry also believes that the best way to get rid of Roseanne Barr’s character on the show Roseanne was to kill her off with opioids — which should tell you how much they think of middle America. Notice, no one thought that kind of joke was offensive — only jokes from people like Kevin Hart.

But Hollywood isn’t the only place the SJW inquisition showed up this week. They also tried to destroy University of Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray the night he won the coveted Heisman trophy for “homophobic tweets” he sent when he was 15 years old.

That’s right — journalists were dredging through Murray’s Twitter page trying to find something to attack him with on the biggest night of his life.

That’s not journalism. That’s tabloid writers pretending they’re fighting for something.

In our age of clickbait journalism, nothing matters except the clicks. And every site is motivated to destroy someone to get the clicks.

Kevin Hart and Kyler Murray aren’t worth any outrage, nor are they worth a single news cycle debating what they said on social media.

No, this isn’t outrage; it’s the definition of fake news. Kevin Hart and Kyler Murray aren’t homophobic in the slightest. And their social media posts didn’t magically “resurface” — fake reporters went out, targeted these two men, and tried to character assassinate them.

The best way to stop this nonsense? Stop clicking on the links of SJW journalists. Dry up their revenue. And then do what people did when saw these two stories: shame the news organizations in question.

Society doesn’t need them running around as the fake moralists of our time; they lack any coherent morality anyone could follow. Just treat them as the trolls they are and stop feeding them.
