Border Patrol agents rescued a 3-year-old immigrant girl abandoned by smugglers in the Rio Grande river, the agency reported in a Tuesday press release.

Agents at Border Patrol’s McAllen, TX office found the lost girl walking along a road by the river on Monday.

The smugglers had separated the child from her mother, who they helped cross separately, and left the girl behind in the river.

A chilling call

After Border Patrol officers got an afternoon call from the Hidalgo Port of Entry about possible illegal immigrants hiding under a bridge, they found a distraught mother who said her daughter had gone missing.

The mother explained that she had crossed the river alone with the smuggler — but when the smuggler went back to cross with her daughter, she saw them both drift away down the river.

She said she “lost sight of them” and could not tell if they went back to Mexico or if the girl drifted away by herself. The smuggler swam back to Mexico to evade capture, Customs and Border Protection told the Daily Caller.

Harlingen Border Patrol river boats and a National Guard helicopter deployed to search for the girl. They found her on a road by the river, checked her for injuries, and reunited her with her mother.

The girl was found to be unharmed and not in need of medical attention.

Mainstream narrative misleading

Border Patrol has several ongoing rescue campaigns to fight smuggling and save illegal immigrants endangered by traffickers, including “Operation Big Rig” and “No Se Arriesgue,” which means “Play it safe.”

Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley have rescued 1,157 migrants between Oct. 1, 2017, to June 30, 2018, a 53 percent increase from the same time period the year prior.

In fact, just last week, Border Patrol agents in the same area arrested three M3-13 gang members and two men who had previously been convicted for child sex offenses. Some of the men had previously been deported.

The media would have us believe that Border Patrol agents are monsters who rip children from their mothers’ arms, but their narrative conveniently ignores stories like this one.

If it weren’t for Border Patrol, this story could have been much more tragic.
