BREAKING: Meryl Streep’s Disturbing Past Exposed
www.GlynLowe.com / CCL
In the wake of the Hollywood scandal regarding allegations against film producer and Miramax co-founder Harvey Weinstein, more and more actresses are standing up to admit that they, too, were victimized by Weinstein. Angelina Jolie, Kate Beckinsale, and Cara Delevingne are just a few of the latest to come forward.
Meryl Streep, however, claims that even though she worked closely with the movie mogul — some even called her his go-to actress — she didn’t know a thing about his activities. Moreover, Streep, who once called Weinstein a “god,” has maintained her silence since the news broke other than a short message from her publicist.
In an even more disturbing twist, a closer look at Streep’s past shows the actress already had a pattern of supporting sexual predators.
“I didn’t know”
After it became clear that the Weinstein scandal wasn’t going away, Meryl Streep released a statement exclusively to Huffington Post through her publicist, calling the news of Weinstein’s predatory behavior “disgraceful” and claiming she was “appalled.” She also claimed that she did not know about what Weinstein was doing.
While Weinstein was making sexual favors a condition of employment and stardom, Streep was chanting high praise for his work on her films. But all Streep could muster in the wake of her deity being exposed as a disgusting sexual predator was a statement through her publicist claiming: “I didn’t know.”
The statement read:
One thing can be clarified. Not everybody knew. Harvey supported the work fiercely, was exasperating but respectful with me in our working relationship, and with many others with whom he worked professionally. I didn’t know about these other offenses: I did not know about his financial settlements with actresses and colleagues; I did not know about his having meetings in his hotel room, his bathroom, or other inappropriate, coercive acts.
While Streep, as well as well-versed Weinstein colleagues like Quentin Tarantino claim they were none the wiser, younger Hollywood stars like Lena Dunham and Amber Tamblyn haven’t hesitated to assure that the producer’s sexual escapades were no secret.
Jessica Chastain, another relative newcomer in the world of movies, even tweeted that she knew “from the beginning” because everyone in Hollywood knew:
I was warned from the beginning. The stories were everywhere. To deny that is to create an enviornment for it to happen again.
A History of Predator Friends
This isn’t the first time that Streep has called a sexual predator a friend.
While she bashed Donald Trump repeatedly during his 2016 presidential campaign, Streep managed to support convicted child rapist and movie director Roman Polanski. The actress even gave Polanski a standing ovation at the Academy Awards, as the convicted pedophile received an Oscar for Best Director.
Like the Weinstein case, Streep can hardly claim that she didn’t know about Polanski’s proclivities – he fled the U.S. in 1978 to avoid prosecution for his crimes, and admitted that he was guilty in 2011. Polanski remains in Poland, where the courts have refused to extradite him to the U.S. to answer for his crimes.
Meryl Streep can claim ignorance about Weinstein’s behavior as long as she wants, but her long history in the movie business makes it difficult to believe she wasn’t aware of the Weinstein’s nasty games — and she did nothing to stop it.
