Trump says he will ‘take a look at’ suing Adam Schiff, Nancy Pelosi
Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), one of President Donald Trump’s biggest critics in Congress, may soon be facing a serious legal headache.
President Trump said that he is considering suing Schiff, according to Bloomberg, for the dishonest manner in which the congressman misrepresented the phone call between Trump and Ukranian President Volodymyr Zelensky — a conversation that has led to the ongoing impeachment firestorm.
In a hearing before the House Intelligence Commitee he leads as chairman, Schiff read aloud a fictitious version of the call between Trump and Zelensky in which the tone and supposed details of the chat were fabricated out of whole cloth, apparently for dramatic effect, Fox News reports.
Facing backlash over his performance at the hearing, Schiff claimed that his summary of the conversation was merely “meant to be at least part in parody,” according to The Washington Examiner.
Watch out, Adam
Trump made the revelation about potential legal action to an audience at the Values Voter Summit in Washington, according to The Hill.
“I actually told my lawyers, I said, ‘sue him anyway,'” Trump said. “‘He has immunity.’ … I said, ‘sue him anyway. Even if we lose, the American public will understand.'”
“Rep. Adam Schiff fraudulently read to Congress, with millions of people watching, a version of my conversation with the President of Ukraine that doesn’t exist,” Trump wrote in a tweet.
He went on:
He was supposedly reading the exact transcribed version of the call, but he completely changed the words to make it sound horrible, and me sound guilty. HE WAS DESPERATE AND HE GOT CAUGHT. Adam Schiff therefore lied to Congress and attempted to defraud the American Public. He has been doing this for two years. I am calling for him to immediately resign from Congress based on this fraud!
If Trump were to sue Schiff, he would likely garner significant support, simply due to the disgraceful tactics Schiff has employed in attempting to bring down Trump. After all, besides his embarrassing phone call parody, it has also been discovered that Schiff lied about meeting with the whistleblower prior to the now-infamous complaint being filed, The Washinton Post reports.
Schiff was not the only focus of the president’s ire, as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was also mentioned as a potential target for litigation. After blasting Schiff for his conduct in the impeachment circus, Trump suggested that Pelosi should also be called to account for her role in escalating the division and political discord currently plaguing the nation.
“And sue Nancy Pelosi, or maybe we should just impeach them, because they’re lying and what they’re doing is a terrible thing for our country,” Trump said, according to the Daily Mail.
Forget fraudulent misrepresentation. Legions of Trump supporters would tend to agree that the actions of Schiff and Pelosi in their ongoing plot to oust a duly elected president are actually closer to treason than to anything else.
