Judge Jeanine: Americans are ‘at risk of losing our greatness’
Judge Jeanine Pirro gave an ominous warning on her self-titled Fox News show on Saturday: Americans are “at risk of losing our greatness” by failing to get the ongoing immigration crisis under control.
Pirro blasted Republicans working against Trump’s efforts to seal up the border and said Congress should be “fired” for failing to do its job. The Fox pundit’s monologue came as Trump, without the support of his party, negotiated a deal with Mexico to beef up enforcement at the border.
“Congress would rather deny [Trump] a win on immigration and let the problem continue to proliferate, no matter the harm to the American people. Even his own party fails him yet again,” Pirro said.
America at risk
On Saturday’s episode of Justice with Judge Jeanine, Pirro drew attention to a troubling fact: two years into office, President Trump has not been able to get control of America’s porous southern border. But it’s not Trump’s fault, Pirro said. The Fox host applauded Trump for taking on the slings and arrows of Democrats and weak Republicans who attack him for doing what’s right for the country.
The blame, Pirro said, lies with an unresponsive and gridlocked Congress that refuses to work for the American people. While Congress does nothing to solve the immigration crisis, the magnitude of the problem continues to worsen; last month, 144,000 illegal migrants gained entry into the country — the highest number in a decade.
Pirro noted that Republicans are not only failing to help Trump with this problem, but they are actively working against him. She pointed out the seven Republicans who supported a Democrat bill granting amnesty to 2.5 million “Dreamers” protected by former President Barack Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.
GOP Reps. Don Bacon (NE), Mario Diaz-Balart (FL), Brian Fitzpatrick (PA), Will Hurd (TX), Dan Newhouse (WA), Chris Smith (NJ), and Fred Upton (MI) all supported the bill. The Republicans’ defection is part of a now-familiar trend; Republicans crossed party lines to support the Democrats’ vote against Trump’s national emergency declaration to build the wall earlier this year.
“The president is left to go it alone,” Pirro said. “Congress has failed every step of the way while attempting to give itself a raise.”
Pirro: Fire Congress
Pirro went on to say that Democrats have “no plan” to address the immigration crisis, since they silently hope to benefit from the influx of migration with more voters. The Fox host played a clip of Fox reporter Martha McCallum pressing Austan Goolsbee, former chief economist to President Obama, whose “solution” was to let migrants seek asylum — which is already legally possible and obviously not a solution to backlogged immigration courts.
Republicans who support the Democrats’ open borders agenda should start calling themselves Democrats instead, Pirro said, before calling on Congress to be “fired” for obstructing Trump’s efforts to get control of the border.
“Now that I think of it, Congress ought to be fired for forcing this president to negotiate with a foreign power to solve a national immigration crisis that our own government won’t solve,” Pirro said. She went on:
Are you stupid and blind, or do you hate the president so much that you’d rather we Americans suffer the burden of the children of illegals into our already too small classrooms? Not having the budget to hire the teachers to deal with the variety of languages that they speak, with American kids suffering a slowdown in their own education, not to mention MS-13 gang members in school who killed students at a high school on Long Island. Who pays for this?
On Friday, Trump announced that planned tariffs of up to 25% on all incoming goods from Mexico would be halted after Mexico reached a deal with the United States to get control of the migrant crisis. Mexico agreed to send 6,000 troops to its border with Guatemala and expand its cooperation with Trump’s “remain in Mexico” policy to get control of the tide of asylum seekers.
The president wrote in a series of tweets:
I am pleased to inform you that The United States of America has reached a signed agreement with Mexico. The Tariffs scheduled to be implemented by the U.S. on Monday, against Mexico, are hereby indefinitely suspended. Mexico, in turn, has agreed to take strong measures to stem the tide of Migration through Mexico, and to our Southern Border. This is being done to greatly reduce, or eliminate, Illegal Immigration coming from Mexico and into the United States. Details of the agreement will be released shortly by the State Department. Thank you!
Senate Republicans, in the pockets of Big Business, have refused to support Trump’s plan.
Meanwhile, as Trump faces continued resistance from Democrats, activist judges, and even members of his own party, more durable victories on immigration remain elusive.
