A year and a half later, Hillary Clinton still doesn’t know how she lost

Hillary Clinton just can’t understand it.
Speaking at a Chicago fundraiser on Thursday, the would-be president admitted that even after writing an entire book titled “What Happened,” she still has no clue.
Clinton has blamed everything and everyone from James Comey to racism to white women for her defeat in 2016. But the real reason she’s having such a hard time understanding her loss is plain to see. The truth — that America just didn’t want her as president — hurts.
Clinton still perplexed
Of the many assets that Clinton lacks (like an updated operating system), self-awareness might be the most glaring. The twice-failed Democratic candidate for president was speaking at the Ida’s Legacy Fundraiser on Thursday in Chicago when she admitted that she hasn’t quite figured it out yet.
“On a personal note I have to say, you know, after the devastating election of 2016, which you know I’m still trying to figure out to be honest with you,” she said.
She lauded “Resistance” leader Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) for taking a stand against President Donald Trump, and criticized her former rival for promoting white supremacy.
“You know, maybe I don’t need to say this because it’s pretty obvious: we are living in challenging times. We’re living through a war on truth, facts, and reason,” Clinton said. “Watching as racists and white supremacist views are lifted up in the media and in the White House; despite of that there are signs of hope and resilience. Much of that is being led and shaped by Black Women like my dear friend Maxine Waters,” she said.
By Clinton’s own logic, she too was a racist and white supremacist just a few years ago when she advocated for the same policies on which President Trump campaigned.
Litany of excuses
One has to wonder if Hillary will ever have the humility to admit that she personally, and her campaign broadly, was simply unappealing to the millions of people who voted for Trump. That’s not to even mention the millions who might have voted Democrat but were so uninspired by Clinton that they decided to stay home on Election Day.
Clinton was widely criticized last month when she blamed women who didn’t vote for her at a speech in Mumbai, suggesting that they were simply obeying the wishes of their husbands. She also doubled down on her characterization of Trump voters as backward-looking racists.
“I won the places that represent two-thirds of America’s gross domestic product,” Clinton continued. “So I won the places that are optimistic, diverse, dynamic, moving forward. And his whole campaign, ‘Make America Great Again,’ was looking backwards.”
That really demonstrates why she lost in a nutshell, doesn’t it? Clinton actually believes that if you didn’t vote for her, you’re just lazy, backward, pessimistic and primitive.
At this point, Clinton’s self-pity tour is starting to become painful to watch. Her ready-made arsenal of excuses – the Russians, Bernie Sanders, the Electoral College, sexism – can’t hide the truth. Deep down, Clinton knows why she really lost — and the truth hurts.
