Report: George Conway tells friends wife Kellyanne is ‘in a cult’

November 18, 2019

An unfortunate subplot of the liberal media’s incessant attacks on Donald Trump is the routine sniping at White House counselor Kellyanne Conway regarding her marriage to attorney George Conway, an incredibly outspoken critic of the president.

The media-fueled speculation about marital discord between the Conways has seemingly kicked up a notch in recent weeks amid the ongoing impeachment inquiry, and now, Vanity Fair reports that friends of George Conway claim he says his wife is part of a “cult” that could destroy their marriage if she doesn’t leave soon.

Kellyanne in a cult?

The media outlet noted that George Conway has been photographed partying with some recognizable faces of the anti-Trump “Resistance” and pointed out that he also made a rare TV appearance on MSNBC on the first day of public impeachment hearings last week to provide his hyper-critical assessment of Trump.

Citing three anonymous sources said to be “close” to George, it was reported that the marriage has become increasingly strained in recent weeks as the impeachment process has ramped up.

“He tells people she’s in a cult,” one source said of the Conways, while a second source said the marriage is “not going to get better until she’s cast out of the cult.”

Still, the sources insisted that George still loves Kellyanne and is hopeful that they can make things work — if she leaves the White House. A third source lamented: “He’s going through a tough time.”

Tensions rise

The Vanity Fair piece reported that George Conway spends most of his time in New York while Kellyanne is, obviously, in Washington. When they do spend time together, they typically try to avoid talking about President Trump, save for the occasional “passive-aggressive digs” lobbed at each other.

The article went on to suggest that President Trump has grown tired of the constant criticism from George and that the president’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, who reportedly has long wanted to push Kellyanne to the side, wants her out of the White House too. However, the president’s counselor reportedly still has a strong ally in First Lady Melania Trump, and a recent tweet from Donald Trump, Jr. in response to George would suggest that he is standing in support of Kellyanne as well.

Vanity Fair noted that frustrations appeared to boil over on Thursday during an appearance by Kellyanne on CNN with Wolf Blitzer when the host received a frank tongue-lashing from the president’s adviser after referencing her marriage and playing a clip of her husband’s commentary supporting impeachment.

“What you just quoted is said every single day by other voices. But you wanted to put it in my husband’s voice because you think somehow that that will help your ratings, or that you’re really sticking it to Kellyanne Conway,” she said. “And let me be very clear: You didn’t stick it to Kellyanne Conway. I think you embarrassed yourself, and I’m embarrassed for you, because this is CNN now?”

Indeed, the mainstream media seemingly can’t help themselves but to focus sharply on the marriage between the top presidential adviser and a staunch Trump critic — a focus that is about little more than attempting to embarrass and drive a wedge between Conway and Trump.

It is sad that conservatives and alternative media outlets have to address the private and personal disputes of a husband and wife whom the left insists on constantly forcing into the public conversation. It would be nice if the liberal media would do the honorable thing for once, and leave the Conways’ relationship alone.
