Report: Bristol Palin’s husband Dakota Meyer files for divorce Gage Skidmore / CCL

Like her famous mother, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, Bristol Palin has become somewhat of a celebrity, thanks to her ongoing reality television appearances in shows like Dancing with the Stars. Now, the 27-year-old politician’s daughter is making headlines yet again — but for a heartbreaking reason.

According to multiple reports from sources including People magazine and TMZ, Bristol Palin’s husband Dakota Meyer has filed for divorce.

Meyer, a 29-year-old Marine veteran and Medal of Honor recipient, reportedly moved out of their shared household around Christmas and formally filed for divorce “two weeks ago.”

Palin and Meyer have two children together, 9-month-old Atlee Bay and 2-year-old Sailor Grace. Palin has another son, 9-year-old Tripp, with her ex-boyfriend Levi Johnston.

Rocky Relationship

Palin and Meyer’s relationship hasn’t been the typical reality television love story. The couple was first engaged in March 2015, but broke their relationship off just two months later.

“This is a painful time for family and friends and I would just really appreciate your prayers,” Palin wrote in a Patheos blog at the time. “I know God’s plan is greater than anything else, and Tripp and I are in Alaska beginning to rebuild our lives under much different circumstances than we anticipated.”

Shortly after the pair postponed their nuptials, Palin announced that she was pregnant with the couple’s first child.

“I wanted you guys to be the first to know that I am pregnant,” Palin wrote in another blog. “Honestly, I’ve been trying my hardest to keep my chin up on this one. At the end of the day there’s nothing I can’t do with God by my side, and I know I am fully capable of handling anything that is put in front of me with dignity and grace.” She continued:

I know this has been, and will be, a huge disappointment to my family, to my close friends, and to many of you. But please respect Tripp’s and my privacy during this time. I do not want any lectures and I do not want any sympathy.

Palin gave birth to Sailor Grace in December 2015 and, six months later, in June 2016, the couple wed. Soon after, Palin changed Sailor’s last name to Meyer.

“We can get through anything”

“Life is full of ups and downs but in the end, you’ll end up where you’re supposed to be. We are so happy to share with loved ones the wonderful news that we got married!” the couple told Entertainment Tonight after the wedding in 2016.

“Hard work and God’s grace are the foundation of our new life together,” they added at the time. “With the love and support of our family, we know we can get through anything.”

It seemed that the pair was indeed trying to work through their hardships earlier this year when Meyer posted a photo of his family on Instagram on Jan. 7, soon after he moved out, with the caption: “What matters.”

But Meyer has since blocked his soon-to-be-former wife on various social media platforms, and both Palin and Meyer have been seen in other, more recent photos on social media without their wedding rings.

It is unclear if any custody arrangements have been made in regard to the children.
